Byosen take two

Posted by dee savoy |

One of the most popular posts on our reikisisters blog (the us being me and my older sister Elyse) is one on byosen scanning. Here's a major portion of the article:

Actually, I find scanning one of the easiest Reiki techniques. Byo means sick and sen means line, so you are basically looking for areas of sickness in the body. What is difficult is gauging the subtlety of what you find in the energy field. Sometimes you can feel hot or cold, tingling or other sensations, each or which may indicate something different. Ideally, with time the practitioner will be able to discern what each feeling indicates.

According to an article in the Reiki News Magazine by Frank Arjava Petter:

Levels of byosen

* Heat. This heat is above normal body temperature.
* Strong heat. This heat makes your palms sweat.
* Tingling. The tingling can be experienced as pins and needles, as a magnetic feeling, or as your hands falling asleep.
* Pulsation, cold. The pulsation can be strong or weak, slow or fast. When the place you touch feels cold, it is not the fault of your hands, but a sign of byosen level four.
* Pain in the hand of the practitioner. This pain may be felt in the hand, in the fingers or in the back of the hand. It may move up your hand into the forearm, and may continue all the way up to your shoulder.

The ability to scan becomes more necessary when clients come in without a specific complaint but feeling a general malaise, tiredness or feel blocked in some way they can't easily define. Here's the technique:

1. Starting at your client's crown, run your palm downward along the front of the client's body, keeping your hand at least two or three inches above the client. Scanning is done strictly in the energy field. The back of the body can also be scanned.

2. As your hand moves, note any changes in temperature or any sensations of tingling, pain, or discomfort you might feel in your palm or in your own body corresponding with where you are scanning on the client.

3. These areas where you feel differences are the ones that in all likelihood require special attention during treatment.

Scanning does not have to occur in one smooth motion, but often proceeds in several stroking motions, pausing when hibiki is found. Hibiki is the dissonance between the positive energy in the practitioner's hand and the negative energy of dis-ease in the client which causes the sensations I described. The practitioner might pause to confirm the presence of sensations, note their strength or discuss them with the client before moving on.

As with anything else, practice makes perfect. Again, the artwork is by Gaia.

Getting rid of all that does not serve

Posted by dee savoy |

Every once in a while I read a horoscope for my sun sign that really resonates with me.  I found this one at Karmacaffe.

Scorpions need to assimilate the high degree self purification energies of Saturn…it is as though the Essence of your Being is shedding excess baggage in preparation for a glorious new life…Stand tall in all the gifts which you have assimilated through past suffering. Scorpio lives in far deeper water than most and is painfully aware of the subterranean currents which flow through all Beings. Let’s face it…our intense presence can be disconcerting and definitely stir the Pot but on the positive side we imprint the souls of others with a desire for great internal transformation. Why? Because we have faced life head on and confronted our deepest wounds. And in the healing we now carry a force in our energy field which helps others to heal also. But it may not always create cushy comfort zones for those within your most intimate circle. My advice this month. Choose a strong mate. One who appreciates your hard won internal sense of Light…and bask in the joy of growth…and passion!

I do feel like I am in a phase of shedding the old and new transformation.  I have let go of so much that I thought was essential to my life.  It turns out that I was only resisting letting something new come in.  I feel much freer and much more myself now.

Hello Dolly, I mean Dalai

I don't know why it plays twice here, but oh to have the graciousness of the great man greeted by Memphis mayor Myron Lowery.  Humor, too, is an ingredient in enlightenment, but I'd rather have a hug than a fist bump.  That's just me, though.

On the pulse of morning . . .

Posted by dee savoy |

I like to rise and do my morning ritual.  Nothing fancy--just a few stretches to stimulate the body, the invocation of a few goddesses and a little prayer.  For those looking to enhance their own spiritual guidance, here's a morning meditation you may enjoy.  The author may or may not be by Caroline Myss (I got this off a list).  Either way you may find this a lovely addition to your morning ritual.

Daily Meditation

********************************************
I invoke the presence of the Sacred, the presence of the Divine.
I invoke the power of the Chakras, the Sacraments and the Tree of Life.
Awaken and be active with me.

Divine Spirit, bring me into union with you.
Remove the obstacles that keep me from the experience of your presence.
Let me clearly perceive your guidance.
Walk with me into my mysteries; replace my fears with Faith.
Give me the capacity to abide in mystery full time.
I give up the need to know why things happen as they do.
I surrender my will to your Will.
Let me feel your presence as much in change as in tranquility.

Show me the purpose for which I have been born.
Align my energy to Divine purpose.
I accept the task that emerges.
Speed up my evolution.
Show me things energetically, rather than have me live them.
Take away my distractions, false voices, my illusions and misconceptions.
Show me my shadow side, and what I'm here to learn.
In becoming a balanced and conscious being, help me to develop honor,
creativity, integrity, endurance, commitment, compassion, harmony and mercy.

I call my Spirit back into present time. I unplug my energy from the
people, places and things into whom and into which I have invested it.
I will no longer finance the past or past memories with my energy.
Help me to remember that all the people in my life are here
according to Divine Plan.
They are helping me fulfill my sacred contract,
as I am helping them with theirs.

I bless, forgive and release those whom I perceive as having harmed me.
I ask forgiveness and release of those I have harmed in any way.
Thank you for my life in just the package it comes in, just as it's unfolding.
Thank you for the many teachers, guides, and inspiring people in my life.
May there be Divine Harmony among all of us.

May all be blessed with peace and joy, love and light!

Reikified!

Posted by dee savoy |

I had the pleasure this year of attending the 15th Annual Reiki Retreat in upstate New York.  It was a transformative experience for me and the driving force behind many of the changes I've been moved to make in my life (including starting this blog).  I'm already saving up for next year.

Here's a little taste of the last day's smudging ceremony.  Yes, I'm in the video.  You can guess who I am, but I'm not telling.

Anachronisms is us

I couldn't help being tickled by this cartoon, but didn't anybody notice Allah (or rather Islam) came AFTER Christianity?  Oh well, maybe folks should have stuck with Buddha.

Karen's WINGS post for September 15 is now available.  She writes:

In this WINGS post, find out how we have now become permanently
severed from the old reality, how we can still connect if we
choose to, what will happen in the old reality as well as the new,
and more about the importance of making our final decisions.

The time of his li-i-ife . . .

Posted by dee savoy |

I have to admit that after hearing Patrick Swayze had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, I kind of forgot about him.  I heard about him starting production on a new show and I assumed his health crisis had been resolved.  I also have to admit I fell in lust with his performance in Dirty Dancing.  I also loved the movie's dual messages of stepping outside one's own box to find oneself and also to stand up for those you care about.

But it was his appearance in Ghost and a story I heard afterward that really endeared the man to me.  A while back on The View Whoopi Goldberg recounted that it was really Swayze who had championed her in the role of fake psychic turned legit.  It was he who believed in her and convinced the producers to hire her for the role.  Whoopi won a well-deserved Oscar for that performance.

One of my favorite parts of the movie is the end where the orbs come to lead Patrick's character Sam to the afterlife.  He looks back and says "You get to take it with you.  All the love inside, you take it with you."  And you do.  I believe that devoutly.  I guess the trick is to let love in while you are here, on this plane.

Namaste

Posted by dee savoy |

I have been practicing reiki for six years, but I am just now coming out of the closet with what I believe and how allowing spirit into my life has changed it and me for the better.  I just got back from the 15th annual reiki retreat in upstate New York, where one of the themes was practicing reiki fearlessly.  We talked about how the world was ready for reiki.  I'm still not sure about that, but I plan on doing my part anyway.  To that end, I started this blog to hopefully wake a few people up, or at least get them thinking.

Please join me by speaking out in your own way--and reading this blog, if you like.  I hope to have something interesting to say at least once a week.  If you have a book or product you would like me to review, please let me know.  If you'd like this blog to be a stop on your blog tour, please let me know that, too.

Thanks for stopping by.
