The time of his li-i-ife . . .

I have to admit that after hearing Patrick Swayze had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, I kind of forgot about him.  I heard about him starting production on a new show and I assumed his health crisis had been resolved.  I also have to admit I fell in lust with his performance in Dirty Dancing.  I also loved the movie's dual messages of stepping outside one's own box to find oneself and also to stand up for those you care about.

But it was his appearance in Ghost and a story I heard afterward that really endeared the man to me.  A while back on The View Whoopi Goldberg recounted that it was really Swayze who had championed her in the role of fake psychic turned legit.  It was he who believed in her and convinced the producers to hire her for the role.  Whoopi won a well-deserved Oscar for that performance.

One of my favorite parts of the movie is the end where the orbs come to lead Patrick's character Sam to the afterlife.  He looks back and says "You get to take it with you.  All the love inside, you take it with you."  And you do.  I believe that devoutly.  I guess the trick is to let love in while you are here, on this plane.
